Evolution Gaming Shuts Down Netent Live Studios
The employees of NetEnt AB are facing a period of uncertainty following the announcement by the renowned iGaming software developer that it will be implementing job cuts in light of its recent acquisition. Evolution Gaming has taken over NetEnt and is considering a significant reorganization.
According to reports from the Times of Malta, Evolution recently acquired the Stockholm-listed firm for $2.12 billion. One of their initial decisions was to close down NetEnt’s live casino studios in Qormi. As a result, employees at these establishments are at risk of losing their jobs, with the process of selecting names already underway.
A Brief Moment in the Limelight
With over 1,000 employees worldwide, NetEnt AB had only expanded its live dealer casino portfolio three months ago. However, experts had predicted this outcome as Evolution Gaming currently operates nine live casinos and blackjack rooms in the surrounding region.
The Official Response
In September, the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority approved the merger between Evolution and NetEnt. The Ministry for Economy, Investments, and Small Businesses is now discussing options for replacing positions for those impacted by this restructuring effort.
In response to this situation, authorities in Malta have set up a helpline for individuals who may be affected by these job cuts to register on the JobsPlus training and employment platform. The Ministry released a statement saying, “While acknowledging Evolution Gaming’s strong commitment to the local economy, the government, through the Ministry for Economy, Investments, and Small Businesses, is currently engaging in discussions with all parties involved to facilitate a smooth transition for employees who may lose their jobs due to this restructuring effort. Additional measures are being taken through the JobsPlus platform to provide personalized recommendations and job-matching services for all those impacted.”
